Sheep is an amiable and calm animal that can live in harmony with chickens, horses, goats, etc, and it also produces highly valued dairy and meat and helps in the control of unwanted plants.

Sheep generally produce lower and fatter milk than goat milk, but sheep dairy products have passionate supporters and devoted consumers worldwide. Recently, there has been a considerable increase in the sheep dairy industry in the United States, while Europe has a long tradition of consuming such products.

How many sheep per hectare

Like any other crop or livestock activity, if you own the "Earth - Time - Energy" triangle, then you can feel the satisfaction of raising your sheep on your property. If you own a field with an area of 1 hectare for every 12 to 15 sheep and if the grass is enough to cover at least 70% of your diet for nine months of the year, then you can benefit from a diet based on grass and avoid spending considerable amounts of money on food. If your field cannot produce enough grass, you must have the financial resources to supply a certain amount of hay balls along with commercial feeds.

Sheep farming can be a significant source of enthusiasm, great dairy, meat, and wool if done rationally and scalable. The first year of participation is always introductory.

You can take the necessary first steps and projections and calculations for a more significant investment (in time and money) for the next few years. In 3-4 years, if you have become an expert in raising sheep and have found a market to sell your meat or dairy products profitably, you could expand your livestock and pursue this activity more professionally.

Commitment is one of the essential skills you should have. Sheep or any other livestock cannot be left unattended for a day. Dealing with livestock means looking after, watching, cleaning, feed and solve problems 365 days a year. Therefore, if you are considering travelling for a weekend, you should find an experienced and reliable farm sitter to care for your livestock.
